Co-occurring Disorder (COD) Treatment Intensive Training is for anyone working in the Maryland Public Behavioral Health System. These sessions are clinically focused, and participation is expected.

What do we do that gets in the way of our work with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders? This training focuses on our mindset as helping professionals and what gets in the way of client engagement. We will review the latest research on the stress vulnerability model and discuss strategies to increase client and provider well-being. This training will also introduce skills from the Trauma and Community Resiliency Models.
This training focuses on the Stages of Change, Stages of Treatment, and possible interventions for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.
To Harm reduction is both a mindset and a skill set, this training will focus on both areas. Often, value judgements get in the way of our efforts in helping people recover in the way that they define recovery. We will use the stage-wise model to discuss harm reduction interventions and skills.
This training focuses on the practice of Motivational Interviewing. We will review the spirit of motivational interviewing, OARS, eliciting and strengthening change talk, and how to help individuals start preparing for the change process.
This training will focus on the basics of CBT. We will review guided discovery, cognitive distortions, thought tracking and testing, behavioral activation, and using exposure in our work.
This training will focus on Marsha Linehan’s Core Mindfulness Skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
This training will focus on Marsha Linehan’s Emotion Regulation Skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
This training will focus on Marsha Linehan’s Emotion Regulation Skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
This training will focus on Marsha Linehan’s Distress Tolerance Skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
This training focuses on screening tools for COD and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) screening guidelines.
